I noticed something. Whenever I take the train or the bus, I will notice that there is always a bunch of friends on it. They will chat very loudly and there is always full of laughters. However, when all the friends have alighted and there are only one miserable person there, the person will suddenly become extremely quiet and begin to sulk like a boy who has been denied sweets.

This brought forth a question into my mind: does human beings really need friends? Can you cut them off totally from the world?

Now, let's plan this simple experiment. Beware: in theory only and not to be tried out ever!

1. Get a human being.
2. Lock him in a room with all the necessary stuffs.
3. Throw in some entertainment stuffs like the television or the playstation.
4. Do not give him any stuffs that will allow him to be able to communicate with the outside world like computer and phone.
5. Leave him there for half a year.
6. Supply him with food and water.
7. After half a year, take him out and see how he will react.

Now, this are the few possible reactions you will get from him.

1. He will remain the same.
2. He will hvae created an imaginary character and he will introduced it to you.
i.e. "Hello, I want you to meet Tom. He is eighteen this year and he is very happy to meet you. Say Hi Tom."
3. He will start to mumber to himself.
4. He would have been dead already.

So, think about it yourself. Do humans really need friends?
